Close to the small Ohio town of Xenia and just 30 minutes from Dayton sits a covered bridge in the middle of the sprawling Ohio countryside.
Built in 1877 and subject to heavy use the bridge was closed to vehicle traffic and a little while after was rebuilt to be the sturdy bridge it is today.
Either side of the bridge is a well-manicured grassy area. Walk up to the water’s edge, watch the water for fish and the banks for snakes! We visited the bridge with a 10 and 8-year-old, they were able to peer under the bridge to view the structure across the water, had some fun experimenting with how our voices traveled through the bridge and looked at all the wood beams inside the bridge.
There is a small parking area in front of the bridge, the roads leading to it were winding and narrower than your average street, so take care to stay in your lane when driving to and from the bridge.
Whist I was a little disappointed there were no trails to walk near the bridge, we were just a short drive from many other attractions in the Dayton area.
More information about the bridge can be found on this Beavercreek website.
